Meet Humza
Humza Mian is a Pakistani-American Actor born and raised in New York. Since his first experience in a school play at the age of 7, he has had a drive towards acting. In his teens, he spent much of his time researching movies, which transitioned into a deeper analysis and understanding of the great actors of many decades. He developed a personal certainty: to learn the craft of acting, to pursue the process and power by which actors, words, a set, and the angle of a camera, might turn two hours of viewing into engagement and belief in a non-existent world!
A proud graduate of the State University of New York at Purchase, a college with a long and respected history of teaching the performing arts. Its acting program is world renown. He was very fortunate to be cast in several productions on campus. Moreover, the coursework formally introduced him to acting techniques, improvisational monologue training, script analysis, character building and other skills.
After graduation, he tirelessly auditioned for short films, NYC and regional theater, and television dramas. Going abroad to Lahore, Pakistan, he acted in an Urdu Stage play, while learning more about the culture, norms, and art, which Pakistan offers. He realized, too, that his dual heritage can serve to enhance the range of his acting. He gained the self-awareness that his facial look, body build and background would be appropriate for a diverse, multi-cultural host of roles and characterizations.
Wanting to further hone his craft he enrolled in The Acting Studio's (NYC) summer conservatory. He proceeded to continue with their 2 year conservatory, taking weekly classes in the famous Meisner Technique, where he learned to really listen and respond truthfully and fully moment by moment. After completing the conservatory Humza continues to take classes at the MCS Theatre - perfecting the art and practice of technique.
He has appeared in various regional theater productions ranging from upstate New York to NYC. These productions include Shakespeare, musicals, straight plays, children's theater, one act festivals, and off broadway productions. He has appeared in various short films including a Telugu short film, included in several festivals.
When not acting, he continues to practice active exercises for his craft, avidly read books written by the great acting teachers, take masterclasses, and read plays and scripts. He attempts to best serve the writer and director's vision by treating each production as a collaborative effort, forming a strong chemistry with the community of actors and other principals. He has learned to pace himself, to keep a strong eye for detail as he approaches a part. He believes that all the "little things" - the nuances, body motions, feelings, voice tone- these qualities you uniquely possess, that you put in the mix - mightily build up and create an organic lifelike performance, which is what acting is all about.
